Marlins fall in 10-4 Defensive Struggle

GREENSBORO, N.C. --The Virginia Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team faced one of the top defensive teams in the ODAC Saturday, falling to Guilford College, 10-4.

Guilford scored the first two goals on Saturday before Matt Baldwin found Cory Hilliard to cut the lead to 2-1 at the 9:20 mark.

Andre Brummitt found Nick Zepko for a goal late in the quarter to make it 3-2 before the Quaker defense allowed Guilford to take a sizable margin into the fourth quarter.

Guilford scored two in the second quarter and three in the third to jump out to an 8-2 edge.

Guilford registered the first goal of the fourth before the Marlins cut into the 9-2 lead. Baldwin found Zepko at the 13:36 mark with Justin Metzger scoring the final margin. Virginia Wesleyan attempted a late rally, but Guilford stopped the effort.

Virginia Wesleyan (2-10/0-5) hosts Randolph-Macon College (7-7/3-3) for an ODAC game Wednesday at 7 p.m.
